A Balinese architect named Ida Bagus Tugur is the architect who developed this museum building. The building of this museum contains a philosophy of "Tri Hita Kirana". The philosophy is a symbol of the presence of the three sources of human happiness. Three sources it is human relations, human relationships with the environment and human relationships with God. Museum of Indonesia was inaugurated in 1980. The museum building inauguration coincided with the commemoration of the founding of 5 years "Taman Mini Indonesia Indah".
Museum of Indonesia has 3 floors. And on each floor has a different theme.
First Floor :
The first floor has the theme "Bhineka Tunggal Ika" (different but still one). On this floor contains an exhibition of traditional clothes and wedding clothes from 33 provinces in Indonesia. here also there is a diorama puppets and musical instruments typical of Indonesia. On this floor we can know the diversity and richness of Indonesian culture consisting of language diversity, culture, customs and religion in Indonesia.
Second Floor:
The second floor has the theme of Human and Environment. Here the objects displayed traditional form of traditional houses, places of worship, granary. Also there are houses with placement based environment such as houses stage, tree houses and also various other types of traditional houses. You can see the diorama cultural life and the traditional ceremony in Indonesia. Also various tools used everyday by tribes in Indonesia. In closing on this floor there is a giant tree carving as high as 8 meters and has a width of 4 meters. This carving shaped "Kalpataru" tree or also called the tree of life. This tree symbolizes the five elements of life: water, fire, wind, earth and sky.
