Ijen Crater, Amazing Crater in East Java Indonesia

 Ijen crater, is a very interesting tourist destination in East Java. Ijen volcano is still active with a height of 2,443 m above sea level. Temperatures here between 2-8 degrees Celsius. with an area of about 5466 hectare, Ijen is a set of mountains with craters in the middle. Ijen crater area is part of the 3 districts, ie Banyuwangi, Situbondo and Bondowoso.



Ijen is acidic crater lake in the world. With zero degree of acidity and depth that reaches 200 meters, the crater is very dangerous because it can dissolve the clothes and the human body. This crater can produce hydrogen chloride and 36 million cubic meters of sulfur. Therefore, this area used as a sulfur mine were very productive. Sulfur mines here is very simple and is still done manually. you can see the miners who are of local people down the street filled with poisonous gas with a chunk of sulfur on their backs.


The most appropriate time to come to the Ijen crater is in the morning. Before the sun rises you must already be in the crater are to enjoy the view of the crater in the morning. With the yellow sunlight and morning dew create an atmosphere of calm and cool that you will not get in the big cities. Do not be too late to come to Ijen Crater. Because at 02.00 PM this area is often closed because of heavy fog of toxic crater.

One more amazing from Ijen Crater is the phenomenon of blue fire. The blue fire is only in two places in the world, in Iceland and Ijen Crater Indonesia. Many tourists come here just to witness the amazing blue fire. This phenomenon can only be seen in the early morning at 1:00 to 3:00 am before sunrise. To see the blue fire you have to go down 800 meters into the crater. Of course you have to be with a tour guide who is an expert. We recommend that you come in the dry season months of July to September. Because it would be very dangerous if you hike in the rainy season due to slippery roads.


Ijen Crater is about 68 miles from downtown Bondowoso. You can use your car or public transport, you can also rent a car through your travel agent. From Bondowoso you towards Paltuding. From here you have to walk 3 miles to go to the location. This path is a path that is very beautiful. Because along the way you will be presented with a view Arabica coffee plantations and trees are very beautiful.


If you are like the challenge and adventure, you can through the South. South path is the path that passes through the town of Banyuwangi. From Banyuwangi you towards Licin with a distance of about 15 km. Then from Licin towards Paltuding with a distance of 6 km. In this path winding its way uphill and so you have to use a jeep or other heavy car to get to Paltuding.


Ijen Crater at Bondowoso is a tourist destination that I recommend. You will not find another place like this anywhere else.
